Whois Privacy Protection, sometimes also referred to as Privacy or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the genuine contact information of domain registrants on WHOIS lookup sites. Without such protection, the personal name, address and email account of any domain registrant will be openly accessible. Providing fake information during the registration process or altering the genuine info afterwards will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing his/her ownership rights. The policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, require that the WHOIS details must be valid and up to date at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was launched by registrars as a response to the increasing concerns about possible identity theft. If the service is enabled, the registrar company’s contact details will be shown instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that don’t.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

If you get a shared hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names as long as their extensions support this service. You can register/transfer a domain and add Whois Privacy Protection during the registration procedure or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment later through the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is really easy – after you sign in, you’ll have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll see a list of all the domain names that you have registered through our company. For each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will let you know whether the service is enabled or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain name, or you can disable the service if it is currently activated.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Enabling Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name is incredibly easy if you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain is registered through us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that comes with each semi-dedicated plan. In case a given generic or country-specific Top-Level Domain supports Whois Privacy Protection, you’ll notice a small logo on the right-hand side of that domain. To enable the service, you will need to click on it. In the very same fashion, you can also renew or disable the service. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for a domain during the account activation procedure as well, but since the service is optional, we will offer you the possibility to add it to any of your domain names later in case you think things over and choose to hide your private info from the public after you’ve already ordered the semi-dedicated account.
